OK a scanner is used to take a picture or drawing (any be reluctant really) and put a digital copy of it onto your computer. If you have a 3 within one the driver for your scanner should already be installed. Just put whatever you want to scan onto the chalice surface close the lid and press the scan button on your scanner. Then follow any instructions on the comp screen.
A scanner will allow you to scan documents or pictures so that you can see them on the computer contained by the form of a digital picture.
