Scanning to PDF: Can Using Different DPIs Cause Problems ?
If we are scanning to B & W and hold a choice of several different DPIs, should some DPI 'standard' influence how many DPI we scan at ?
Let's read out I have choices of 100, 150, 200, 300, 400, and 600 dpi.
The 100, 200, and 400 do not fit one model that i see, which is 75 - 150 - 300 - 600 - 1200 (doubling that starts at 75).
Is that pattern a formal standard ? (other than for submitting to magazine, etc).
If we scanned at 200 or 400, could that potentially effect problems that would be avoided with 300 ?

no, for manuscript only 200 is plenty. 300 is adequate for text and pictures usually, if you required it a better resolution 600 is more than enough and is a "standard" setting for graphics and is rightly large anything larger would basically be too big for a lot of culture.
It just depends on your graphics program as to what pattern they choose to put resolutions at. Most places only ask for resolutions at 200 or 300 DPI (even for graphics).
