How do i scan a document next to both pictures and essay?

I hold a ton of magazines taking up profoundly of space. I want to scan the articles i want to keep and later recycle the hard copies. So how do i shift about scan the pages so that i can.
a. rummage through the text for keywords
If not searchable, consequently what do i do?
any suggestions on dpi setting so that they are not large files but can still see the pictures okay?

If you have a scanner you should hold an OCR application... If you have MS Word you should hold it to... OCR is Optical Character Recognition... it can convert hard copy tect to digital deed... it also copy the images... so you can rescue the document (editable and searchable) in a word document... more or less the dpi... thats a very difficult interrogate... if it is just essay i would recommend something between 100-200... if it have pictures (specially pictures bringing up the rear the text) I would recommend 300 or maybe more...
