I can't scan my documents!! Help!?

So I hold a new printer/scanner. I requirement to scan some documents and e-mail then as attachments to my professor inside the next hour. My documents are scan and printing, but it is NOT scanning to my computer. I thought a program would pop up or something, but zilch else is happening. Any thinking? Please help!
