Scanjet hp7800, getting can't converse to scanner, check cable and power?

Disconnect printer USB cable, uninstall drivers, reboot PC
Reinstall drivers, connecting printer ONLY when prompted.
After this DO NOT move USB plug or bring in/out when PC is on, it can cause the printer to feel it's a new piece of equipment and reload drivers with incorrect USB virtual port settings.
