Advice just about scanners?

I'm looking at the Canon Pixma MP160. I know a bit give or take a few Canon Pixma printers, but this is an all-in-one, and I want to be sure its a decent scanner. It say it scans up to 1200x2400-dpi resolution. Can someone translate this for me??

My fiance take a lot of picture photos and we want to be able to receive them into the computer. I want a pretty decent scanner....

Answer:
The 1200x2400 dpi resolution will be fine for scan photos. In fact you may want to scan in a lower resolution than the 1200x2400.
You will within fact be merry if you want to scan family photos into your computer for storage or to reproduce.
