Scanner produces Smoke??
I left it for a couple of hours later used it again and i worked...
What's the problem?

Either the grease on the rods have diminished or the motor is dying... at least that's what it sounds close to to me... if it's the motor, that'll cost you a new scanner...
Throw it away.
I've see this kind of piece with motherboards. it could be the motor getting hot, but you would hear a squalling pandemonium from it. the other thing is the capacitors on the circuit getting incredibly hot. if they get hot after they are now , eventually they will pop. what is stirring is when they get hot they expand. i wouldn't depart it on without self there. capacitor store and release joie de vivre. this could cause a serious fire in need you know if unattended. if the capacitors do blow, it could sound close to an air overrun with a foul smell or a fire cracker going off. be precision full with this.
