Can I use a PCI SCSI card to replace an ISA SCSI card? It's for my Umax S-12 scanner.?
So I want to know if I can grasp a PCI SCSI card to replace the original. I deem the ISA card is a 50-pin card. I know there are 50-pin cards available but am unsure of compatibility issues. Does this scanner merely work w/ that card, or can it work w/ any SCSI card w/ the same # of pins? I'd similar to to know b4 I buy a card.
Any recommendations as to what kinda card to obtain? Cuz I'm sure not replacing my motherboard !! Thanks in credit !!
Answer:
Adaptec makes a bunch as long as you achieve the same type of connector (scsi-1, scsi-2, scsi fast-wide, etc) you can replace the isa card near a pci card.. The scanner will not know the difference. Adaptec is a quality cross. Some motherboards offer a scsi interface as an recommended add-on.
i cant reccomend any cards, but i cant report you that a pci card will work the same as isa card (cept pci is quicker etc)
the scsi device wont know the differance.
create sure the plugs are the same!!
your scanner scsi card is probably the feeble type which is similar to a com port connector - if it is, u r probably out of luck, i was also hunting for a pci scsi card for a similar scsi scanner ( a damn perfect one too) but have be able to find one. The trader just said that it is an outdated model and they dun enjoy support any more.
Have you wondered why the previous owner gave the scanner away? ;)
