You might want to check the printer's manual and see if it can even adopt index cards. They are typically a lot thicker than regular dissertation, so that could cause problems for your printer. If your printer is practised of printing to index cards, be sure that the print settings are correct so that the printer does not try to print to a space beyond the length of the index card.
