My suggestion would be to take the tape back, if a tape does not work upon install this cartridge will verbs to be trouble. What happens is the ink dries within the print nozzles, this means that the tape has to be at lowest possible four months old.
I see that the modern cartridge is powerless to print.

However, If the issue persist then this could be due to the defective tape. Please replace the cartridge from where on earth you have purchased.
And How much did you spend on this fresh cartridge? Wouldn't it be more cost significant to return the cartridge and buy a hot printer? The last printer I purchased be a Lexmark and it cost me $20 (U.S.). It would have cost me $40 and modification to replace the cartridges in my behind the times printer...
It really depends upon what printer you have, if you hold an HP, Lexmark or a canon that takes a PG-40, and Cli-41 tape it will be an issue with the tape itself.
However if you have an epson, brother or any canon that take ink tanks the issue could be the printer if:
1. You haven't used the printer within more than a month
2. one or more of the other ink tanks is deserted.
3. You are using an aftermarket, not name brand videotape.
Try running a couple prin head cleanings, your booklet should tell you how to do this. If this fail to show improvement try to exchange the videotape.
