well it depend on the mixture type of the printer, why not other allow the ink to remain a little , consequently you can be printing your blacks, also your printing can be sellect and choose black print, else the printer might be sensing other colour in the document distribute to be print
There may not be a way around this. Some printers do this because they enjoy built-in printheads and will not allow printing once the cartridges are dry.
The reason is because if you fire the printheads while they are dry, the printheads will burn (kinda similar to boiling a kettle dry). And you will use some colors even though you print just B&W because the printhead requirements to service itself by printing some ink.
The easiest way to work around it is to buy a brand new yellow videotape and just verbs printing B&W. The servicing should not take up too much ink and you will know how to go on printing for fairly some time as long as you have black ink.
