Printers are so inexpensive that if it is not something that you can readily repair yourself through the diagnostics, and it is no longer in warranty, you are better past its sell-by date just buying a investigational one.
Unless you are talking just about an expensive HP printer, you are better off replacing it beside a new model. Common household printers are repeatedly less than $100 (USD) and can commonly be purchased for closer to $70 (USD). The cost of a technicians time plus the parts is going to quickly exceed the price of a up to date printer. If the printer is under warranty, check beside HP and they should be able to provide you near information for repair/replacement. I actually did this next to an Epson printer once when it was out of warranty and Epson still provided coverage. I have only tried to find out if in that was any user serviceable parts on printer as it purely stopped printing, even with replacement cartridges. I haven't have to deal next to HP on a failed printer but (hoping my current HP Deskjet 5540 holds up several years).
