Printer compatibility?

Are most brands of printers compatable next to most brands of computers? I have a Dell laptop and a HP desktop and I want to purchase a printer/fax that I can use next to both. Any suggestions out there? I'm also retired and on a tight budget. Thanks

Answer:
Yes any printer will work as long as you enjoy Windows 98 or better on both of your computers. I would recommend an HP printer because they are known for their reliability. I am underneath the impression that you don't plan on printing a full lot. Since that is the bag, you may look into the HP Officejet 5610. This machine will print, copy, scan, and fax. Ink is as expected priced and will last a while for moderate print usage. If you plan on printing standard photos, look into the HP Officejet 6210. Both these printers can be found for $150. The HP Officejet 5610 would be my first choice. I've seen it at Best Buy for $119.

One of the answers to your query recommended the HP 1510. This printer would not be what you want since the 1510 does not have a fax function. Also, the 1510 is no longer within production, being replaced by the C3180.

Yes .. printers are usually compatible beside computers... Newer printers would be better with Xp though. The 1510 HP adjectives in one is great for beneath $90. Probably cheaper at Costco.
