Epson r300 kaput on hi-grade laptop, why?

Install the software first, without have the printer connected to the machine and connect the printer when prompted. Don't own the printer connected while installing the software.

If this is a USB printer, first install the software and afterwards plug your printer into the PC. That may solve your problem. If you've done that, try uninstalling all Epson software from your piece of equipment, then restart, after re-installing it. All I can think of.
Go to the Epson website and download the drivers
You own probably downloaded the wrong driver for the printer thats why it is not working try again generate sure it's for win xp not vista install software first then plug within the printer when asked not before.
