Connect to a usb printer over a gridiron?

I hold a normal usb printer connected to a network computer and I want to print from a networked laptop short having to connect the printer directly to the laptop. is this possible and if so how ?

Answer:
the easiest agency to do it is to go to the computer next to the printer attached, go to control panel, and printers, right click the printer you want to use and click sharing.
click the radial button "share this printer" and distribute it a meaningful designation.
the go to your laptop, jump to start, run and type the ipaddress of the computer connected to the printer in the form
\\nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn\ this will bring up adjectives the shared folders and printers available on the computer. right click the printer and choose connect.
the rest of the process will be similar to installing a normal window printer. it will appear in the window print menus like any other printer.

unsurprisingly you will need to give the main computer powered on, not necessarily logged contained by, to be able to print from the laptop.

the other style of doing it is to purchase a USB network print server available from shops such as PC world etc for around lb60. but print sharing works merely fine. and its free.
goto Printer & Faxes on the connected pc and right click the printer and turn on Printer sharing. next goto laptop and add unusual print, network printer
gain a print server that will be hard wired to your router. plug the print server into the router and the printer into the server. install the software for the printer within the laptop.
Yes; and quite effortlessly. ;)

Make sure your laptop and desktop are connected to the same lan make friends .. wifi or wired it shouldn't matter. The computer next to the attached printer (assumingly a desktop/tower computer) You should beable to print with that computer already.

On the Desktop beside the attached usb printer; goto your Start>settings>printers

in in attendance you should find your printer (ie Lexmark G3) or something similar to that. right click once on that icon, depending on the os here will either be a 'sharing' route there; or right click it once .. goto properties. .near should be a sharing option within the tabs located near. Enable sharing on the printer.

On the laptop meanwhile..

go to..
Start>settings>printers>give printer

Add printer; goto networked printers, click on browse; you should see your desktops computer moniker in near.. select that printer.. it will install the drivers for you from there.

At that point it should print a moment ago as if it was connected to your laptop.

Two things to preserve in mind; possibly obvious.. probably not.. To print to the printer from your laptop your desktop will have to own the power on.

Secondly the workgroup name(s) of the laptop and the desktop must be matching.

The workgroup label for the computer can be found in Start>settings>control panel>System

There you should beable to vista and change the workgroup baptize (note: don't confuse this near workgroup description)

Hope this helps;

Cheers;
