Not really. The printer head are all built onto the ink cartridges in our time, so to do what you are doing is pretty much getting all the money out of the tape you paid for, which is pretty smart. After the unfurnished cartridge is replaced you'll be subsidise in business again.

The reason the printer stops is because it is designed exactly to prevent the printhead from burning. There is some ink not here in the printhead and the printer calculate a buffer. So it is safe to step on printing.
Having said that, some Canon printers allow you to resume beyond that. If that happens, you will know how to go on printing until the printer go completely dry (you're printing blank pages) and that would be bad. Don't do that, especially near ink tank printers because the printheads are irreversible and replacing them will be very expensive.
if blank rag still spits out, yes. you are burning the printheads up by continuing to try to print. even in printers where on earth the printhead is not a part of the pushcart, this can happen.

the big thing next to burning out a printhead, if it's attached to the cart, is you can no longer top up the cart (if you're into refilling). so, any way, it can be a costly practice.
