My Canon ip4300 uses the 5PGBK and the 8BK cartridges, both black. I don't really vigilance that one is "more black" or whatever the difference is. The 5PGBK container is low and the other one hasn't been touched, so prominently it's been printing from just the one tank. How do I win the printer to utilize the other tank? The Preferences and Help files as you would expect have be no help...

The 5PGBK is your everyday deed black. The 8BK one is your photo black (makes a big difference when printing on photo paper).
The printer automatically chooses which is needed depending on what you are printing.
They are great printers. Sometime print a picture on photo paper you'll be amazed at the competence that machine can print!
