Can I use a 4x5 Wacom tablet beside a widescreen (1440x900) monitor display?

Yes, you can. I use one on my 19" LCD to be exact 1440x900 with no problems. I looked through the manual on Wacom's support site, and it makes no mention of monitor resolution as individual a serious problem.
