The Acer is a better monitor than the Soyo. But is it worth $70 more to you? If you do move about with the Soyo, you should ask if you can return it to the store if you are not delighted for any reason.
Contrast ratio is the ratio of maximum brightness to the brightness at maximum mistiness. If a monitor was without fault dark when sour the contrast ratio would be infinity. Very low contrast ratios would look wash out. The higher the contrast ratio the better.
Response time: Typically a gaming monitor have a response time of 2 to 5 ms. Response time is the time for a point on the screen to turn on or bad. If the response time is not fast plenty, there may appear to be some blurring for incredibly fast motions displayed on the peak. For moderate speeds or normal viewing 8ms is fine.
