How do I adjust my laptop's monitor settings when the power button within Display Properties doesn't work?

When I depart this laptop on, it usually just go into standby mode in a few minutes, disconnecting me from the internet when I'd a bit stay on. I've tried clicking power in display properties but nil happens.
