A simple answer really - but a righteous question:
Touch Screen technology work on the process of:
Laser
Lasers are within a sense are spread over the screen of a touch peak computer. When an object, such as a finger interferes near the laser, the position is provided to the computer in the form of co-ordinates.
Of course nearby is much more too it that than but lets pocket lttle baby steps first.
Primarily our screen are not touch screen as they do not enjoy the correct hardware, by this I mean the lasers.

Because you didn't buy one of the expensive touch screens and touch peak compatible computer, I assume.
Because you didn't purchase a computer with touch peak capabilities. They are available, and Apple is one of the first companies to enjoy computers available with touch eyeshade.
making a touch screen is rugged... one way to label it is to have a set of sensors on the top and right side of your eyeshade that creates a grid to detect where your finger is... i suppose there is another method but it is equally clunky... plus they are sooo easy to break or permanantly ruin with scratch... dont get one unluess you reallllllyyyy involve one
You can purchase a touch screen. It only just is not price wise a polite decision. Also imagine about how some population have thier hand around the computers, the regular monitors are bad plenty.
