the trouble is that we have arranged to pick it up tomorrow

Otherwise buy it and later sell it on! Or lately not go or contact them completely but i reckon to be precise a bit rude...it all depends wether u know the society u r buying it off or not!

Pick it up as arranged and then offer it to a charity.
Then try to find an LCD for a decent price.
If you don't want it, a moment ago say sorry and politely dissolve the pick up. You must not be embarrassed.
If you do pick it up you will be stuck beside it. There are warehouses full of older CRT monitors that nobody wants.
You cant even make a contribution them away (trust me I work for a charity and we have a warehouse full of them)
