What cause my computer to turn stale when I start it up-- it seem to come on and afterwards clicks right stale?

Sounds like the processor might be overheating. The warmness sink on the process might not be making good contact. Try that first. It is also possible it might be to cold. We turned bad the heat when we go away last winter and on returning the puter to several hours to melt up enough to start !!
The most plausible culprit is a faulty power supply.
