Would I procure the full effects of a 720p or 1080i movie on my 1440 x 900 monitor?

Would the resolution be like peas in a pod as on an HD TV?

If your monitor is progressive scan, it will. All LCD monitors are progressive scan, however, most CRT monitors aren't.

720p = 1280x720
