Can't Increase Computer Screen Resolution... Why!???

I hold Windows XP and a Hewlett Parkard p.o.s.

The setting says I can increase it but I cannot increase it previous 800 by 600 pixels...

Any ideas please??

of late check the vga driver ... (display adapter)
You can see it form
Start -> Setting -> Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> Display Adapter
has it be installed correctly ...
If it didn't ...
You must install it first ...
Just search surrounded by internet the Display Adapter Driver and Install the correct driver

the only valid i see is that u r probably not have the proper graphics card or the latest and appropriate driver for ur card.
if you right click on the desktop and goto properties, beneath settings you should be able to move the slider pub to whatever resolution you option to have. If it is blacked out, than try varying the color quality right beside it. It is usually set to environment 32-bit color.
also if your monitor is old model it can't button higher resolution and loses sync
I would guess that you plug-n-pray is out of action.

Try loading the monitor driver instead of the plug-n-play.
