Go check your "Event Viewer" for any hanging applications & error messages .
Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer

Click on "Application" contained by the left panel & see what errors may be record in the right side panel. You can after click on the error & right click for "Properties" & it will display more info.
Do the same thiung to "System" & "Security" (& "antivirus" if its in attendance - some do some don't).
You should update your system
Weird clicking snap sound?? That's the firm drive's death sing!
I had the exact same problem and my knotty drive failed surrounded by about a week's time. If I be you, I'd backup my data NOW. If your tricky drive is still under warranty consequently get it replaced.
