Why do widescreen movies own black bar on a widescreen moniter?

Im running 1680x1050 and it wont pack up the whole eyeshade, is it supposed to?

Answer:
Widescreen TVs are 16x9, but some movies are shot even wider than that. Many are in anamorphic widescreen, which is beyond that of a 16x9 set.

Not adjectives movies are equal. Check this out: http://www.dvdaust.com/aspect.htm...
some movies are wider than wide blind TVs/monitors

a lot of thespian films like star war or something are 2.35:1 instead of 1.85:1
because white is to bright
for some odd cause, the really big ones put in wider eyeshade ratios. Don't know why, though.
Most widescreen movies are shot near a 16x9 viewable area (1.85:1 aspect ratio). Others are shot even wider. Your monitor resolution will own no impact on this.
