Why does my monitor breed a clicking nouns when i try to turn it on?

I hold a 16 inch crt that has be sitting in my garage for a while, when i plug it into an outlet and turn it on, the lead does not light up, and it make a clicking sound. I havent have it connected to a computer because i am missing the cable, could this be the problem? any help would be appreciated.

Answer:
The clicking nouns could be a power relay switch in the monitor. if the relay is malfunchening, after it won't turn on at all. If you must enjoy this monitor working, and you have some adjectives electronic knowledeg, you could carfully open the monitor up, and try and find the relay. If it's on the key board for the monitor, forget about it. If it's a seporite peice, you may be capable of find a replacement at radio shack.

Don't get your hopes up though, I would only plan on getting a new one. Samsung make a nice 17in CRT for about 90 bucks or smaller quantity.

Also try hooking it up to a computer first, then if it doesn't work, I'd merely toss it!
It might not turn on because it is missing that cable, or it could be damaged because of extreme (high/low) temperature, shaking, falling, moisture, or just dust.
