A few days ago my computer frooze and I pressed the restart button. Since after the monitor have remained black.
The neutral on the hardrive is on and the light on the monitor is one. But it is red - not its usual green colour. Someone suggested I should restart it in undamaging mode - using F8. Should I do this?
Specs:
Windows XP
Pentium 4

I'm not a computer whiz (hence the simplistic explaination) so please keep the answer simple.
Thanks abundantly.

There can be several reasons that this have happened, 1, your monitor have failed (try an monitor that you know works) if this did not resolve the problem next the next stage is to look at the plug get sure that none of the pins are bent or damaged this can some times transpire if care is not taken when removing or inserting the monitor plug, subsequent the graphics card, if it's an on-board graphics card the I suggest you obtain a cheap VGA card. if this fixed the problem the you may need to consider buying a really good graphics card. check adjectives leads etc apart from that it perchance your monitor has run into stand by mode. Different monitors have different ways of getting them out of stand by mode it is probably newly as easy to attain another monitor. Sorry I can't be of more help PC MAN.
Open up the computer and do a ocular inspection. If you cant see things in good health because of Dust buildup, then procure some canned nouns and blow it out real polite (outside your house!). A no video condition on a known moral monitor usually means the computer have a hardware failure, especially if you don't even take the BIOS/POST text that appears when you first turn it on. Sometimes what fixes this is to remove and reinstall your system memory as in good health as CPU (with power removed of course). If no go after that, you may enjoy a bad motherboard or CPU.
