Answer:
You can own anything you want but in window is very thorny unless you get dutiful drivers for the monitors you buy. There are some companies that sell multi monitor systems. Taking a look here might give support to:

PCIE means PCI Express which is a special interface for video cards.
2 ways you can do it. If you've get a computer with an integrated video card, you can install a video card that have dual monitor capabilities. Use the 2 from the video card and the 1 integrated.

The 2nd, and better leeway (although probably more expensive) is to get a motherboard that supports SLI and after put 2 video cards in that support dual monitors. SLI requires PCIe video cards. The x16 and x1 represent speeds of how in a hurry data can be transfered to the computer. Video cards are the one and only card that uses the x16. The x1 is for things like framework card and other peripherals. PCIe is just a standard. A video card to be precise made in PCIe plugs into a PCIe slot surrounded by the motherboard.

Either way, you can own different resolutions on all 3 monitors. Having a portrait monitor would require you to own a monitor that turns sideways. I believe Samsung makes one. Definately it is possible though.

Sound expensive? It should, depending on what equipment you've get already, you could be spending a lot of money.
for 3 screen, you need 2 videocards, put surrounded by either SLI or Crossfire. Crossfire is indistinguishable as SLI but from ATI, SLI is from Geforce. You will probably need a modern motherboard. The cards you pick out will always require PCIE 16x and nought else. You can do multi-resolution. Landscape and portrate wise, you fix that up beside the monitor. Using the adjusting settings.
Motherboard astute, you will need a crossfire or sli compatitble motherboard, you will probably inevitability a new, more powerful power supply. You own to make sure the 2 exchangeable videocards you are getting are compatible with SLI, yes they hold to be exactly the same.
So, thats adjectives you need to know if you are building one yourself
Dell come out with a SLI workstation, can support up to 4 monitors. its going on for 2000 to 3000, forgot how much. just check on dell. if you want gaming, check out www.slizone.com and find manufacture that use SLI
