No need for a modern laptop, painless job infact.
Change the LCD. Go to www.screentek.com and they own a whole inventory of compatible laptops that the monitor is for.

Or, buy the screen from eBay, but as it's not unsullied, I don't now how correct it still is.
Try connecting a regular mouse and keyboard and see what happen. Depending on how the monitor got broken nearby may be other damage.
Hi, I don't know how to assist you with setting up your external monitor, but i did want to describe you to look on eBay for a complete laptop, there are various out there next to a perfectly honest screen, but lately wont boot up, or missing all kind of other parts, i have see them for 9 bucks, then you can pilfer it to a local shop and have it swapped out,
OK first they are not compatible u better be glad that it did not fry it do us adjectives a favor and go and buy a untried laptop and forget this foolishness
you may need to progress into the bios and set the external monitor port as the primary monitor, or disable the onboard monitor...good luck
can`t stand to say it but basically go and buy your self a trial laptop cumputer
