I agree beside supertech, the CRT monitors (Space heaters as I like to hail as them) are hands down the best roar for your buck when considering a gaming monitor. The flat screens are better for gaming (flat blind means the peak is flat and not rounded like elder crt's or TV's but the monitor itself is still a CRT).
But if you are looking for a LCD (flat panels) then you patently need to shop around for what your budget allows. For gaming an LCD should hold at minimum a 12ms refresh rate, 8ms is better which is what I use and own no visible stimulate lag surrounded by most games. Faster than that and it's a matter of how much money you are likely to spend. definitely compare monitors within person back buying because two similarly specced monitors from different manufacturers will look different when put side by side.
Edit: If budget is a solid concern, check out www.craigslist.com and go to your nouns. Lot of people that upgraded to an LCD are selling their elder CRT's for cheap. Can usually find a 17" for around $50 or less.
I would suggest a 17" or a 19" (or larger if you want)Flat Screen CRT. Either from ViewSonic or Samsung. I still believe CRT's provide better representation compared to LCD's especially on fast moving objects surrounded by your screen and also it can deliver pure white or pure black colors.
Don't grasp a monitor get a HD TV or regular TV. I hold my computer and gaming systems hooked up to my 42" Sony plasma TV and the sound and video characteristic are awsome. Monitors are out dated any way. All you inevitability are the right cables to do the errand right.
