Answer:
Generally speaking, computer monitors will begin to loose their brightness or contrast as they age. Exactly when they'll loose brightness and become dark varies, but it's a sign of the monitor is on it's concluding leg.

If it's to the point where adjust the controls on the monitor itself or through the Windows control panel doesn't help adjectives that much, then I would suggest simply replacing the monitor.

Monitors are usually more costly to repair than to replace.

mmm... guess you need to check the power supply to the monitor... possibly the cable used is the wrong specification... check with your workstation dealer... cheers...
I be going to say that your high-voltage power supply is degrading, but it is puzzling that this is going on again to a new monitor. Do you live where on earth there are heaps power failures or storm-induced disruptions? If not, your video card may be the villain. It is probably not your internet nouns. If it's a virus, it's a new one on me, but run a virus scan in recent times to be sure.

Does it look the same within safe mode?
It sounds close to your monitor is bad. Take it to a qualified tech for a diagnosis.
Your monitor may hold overheated. It happened to me. If it is completely warm contained by the room it is in or you move out alot of clutter around the bottom of your monitor it won't get proper exposure to air. Monitors do not have to return with very hot to gain damaged.
right Chick and properties
buy an ibm monitor. the impedance to be exact going to the monitors power driver is to much(posibly). or its just a desperate conection. or(yes this is the last or) you can turn up the gamma and brightness.
Sounds resembling you have a problem near your graphics card? it could be the voltage in the bios is set incorrectly, some as far as i can recollect are 2.5 volts some 3.5. check those and that and have you get the correct drivers for card and monitor installed, otherwise it could be a faulty card. I doubt its a problem next to the monitor, also check the leads that could be broken to the monitor.
