Monitors-what type?

I own a spare computer, but it has a CRT monitor I want to replace it beside some type of flat screen. Can anyone detail me what is the best type to get ( pro con's ) . I simply want to use it as a monitor for basic computer stuff ( not video games).
Also anyone know what is a cheap price or where on earth to shop?
Thanks

Answer:
well if your contained by america i would check out http://www.tigerdirect.com and http://www.newegg.com since these have sale on atm, or u could also try http://www.compusa.com http://www.bestbuy.com or even ebay
well tft monitors are cheaper than LCD's
but best conception to go into a computer shop and freshly have a chat next to a salesman, then shop around for one that he/she suggests.
Go to www.tigerdirect.com and check out any of the LCD's that they hold. They are all well-mannered for basic applications.
