Hopefully its XP it will then articulate new hardware detected and the correct drivers will already be in attendance.
You may have to adjust resolution but that’s minor

Usually near is a function button assigned to toggling alternate displays. If not a laptop, your graphics options applet should know how to specify what you are using as a monitor. Just go to Control Panel>displays and look around.
