Hi. Since this question is within 'Monitors' that is what I'll describe.
Old technology - CRT. Large, big, uses lots of power, subject to screen burn contained by. Color rendition may be better but sharpness may not.

New technology - LCD. Shallower, much lighter, uses about 1/3rd the power, blind burn in much smaller number of a problem. Color rendition can be less accurate but at local resolution the picture is very sharp next to no geometric distortion. Sometimes has a problem beside dead or stuck pixels.
