How to setup a monitor to notebook so that different windows/programs are displayed on respectively?

I use a notebook Acer Aspire 5500 next to analog VGA plug/port for an external monitor. I link the cable beside monitor. The output is the same on both screen. Simply a copy/clone.

1. I would like to own different windows/programs/output on each peak.

2. I also would like to be capable of 'move' windows/programs/output from 1 screen to the other (holistic view).

Your suggestion appreciated.

Thank you.

Answers:
Here is a link to the encyclopaedia for the ACER 5 j500 and the specific instructions to accomplish your goal start on page 40. You will need to launch the specially written program call, GRIDVIEW in writ for it to work.

DOWNSIDE:
Most notebooks can't use the built contained by VGA output to extend the desktop to a second monitor. People generally use the round S-Video output to do this.

Even if you enjoy this option you may choose not to use it because of the recital issues it can present. The 5500 like several laptops has an integrated display adapter; your is an integrated Intel 915 series. This is done because of the architectural design restrictions and this type of integrated or on-board adapter have no memory of its own. It operates using a preferred percentage of the existing physical RAM to function. This by itself can significantly reduce the overall show of the notebook which is most notable during video playback and or pictographic intensive programs.

Consider: If you have 512MB of RAM and 128MB taken away by the display adapter, this leaves 384MB total RAM available. In mixing, the CPU and the display adapter are both swapping data to and from alike physical memory.

Now add a second adapter and you may be waiting for that program to nouns, or the video may go frame-by-frame instead of the smoothness we are used to.

ALTERNATIVE:
Here is a association to a relatively low-cost USB 2 external display adapter that does not rely on the system RAM to function. This device will give you a second monitor to extend your Windows desktop full 32 bit true color and much more. It is plug and play so your will be up and running within minutes and the only means of access to add a second adapter to a laptop. If you try the existing on-board beside 2 monitors extending the desktop, and then try this device you will spy a major narration increase.

GOOD LUCK!!
What you're looking for is "extend my desktop..." checkbox surrounded by the display properties. See the screenshot below! Extend will allow you to use the second display as an extension of the desktop instead of a mirror of monitor 1. If you click the one that shows as "2" in the properties, the checkbox should be available. This will allow you to accomplish what you've asked roughly -- dragging application windows onto that display to receive use of both monitors at the same time. We do it seriously here where I work. Getting the second display to come live is the hart part, and you've already get that done. Just click the extend box now and you're home free! One other tip -- if you want the external monitor to be on the departed instead of the right, or vice-versa, just drag the monitor surrounded by that selection porthole (1,2 window contained by display properties, settings) to the side that you want it on. I hope that makes sense.
