DVI-D Cable what is it?

I own bought a new monitor and when I set it up it come with a dvi-d cable which say optional but what does it do?

It stands for Digital Video Interface.... It transports digital video information from a digital source to your monitor. If you don't own a digital source, ignore it... for immediately. Beware... not all DVI sources are digital. The biggest problem beside DVI is that it can be used for digital as well as analog signals (or both). This cable is a Digital Video Input cable. It is a direct link for digital video and is a better nouns than your ordinary input. Better depiction, clarity, etc. If you have the input consequently you should use it.
