How sharp is the picture competence on a lcd monitor next to built within tv?

Has somebody get feedback as i am thinking of buying a 17 to 20 inch lcd monitor which will be used as tv as well.
Is it worth buying the external device to study tv on my present 17 inch lcd monitor.

It all depends on how fussy you are. The picture ability of TV on Lcd is fine for me.

A higher priced one is nearly (but not quite) as well brought-up as TV quality.
