Tilt the eyeshade or try putting it somewhere else in the room. The lighting make a difference on the LED screens. Hope this help.
yeah this happens to me too, and i can't amount out why. if i touch the little button that shuts of the lights when you close the laptop it shuts off adjectives the lights and refuses to turn them put money on on. so now i can never shut my laptop adjectives the way if its on. ]=< sorry i couldn't back.
i had this problem on my ibm thinkpad and it be the button when you close the lid that puts it into standby was stuck. if that's not it you can plug a monitor into your laptop so you can see what is on the peak to further diagnose the problem.

Sounds approaching a hardware problem. Does the screen desk light up at all contained by a pitch-black room? If not, then your LCD blind (or possibly the switch that turns it off/on when you open/close it like katarina2727 said) is broken.
Maybe it desires to be serviced
If it is a mac, I would just restart it and adjectives should be well. If it's a laptop... good luck.
