click the apple at the top departed of the screen, from that menu select system preferences. later select energy depositor and turn off or adjust "screen sleep" timings.

If it's a flatscreen, the backlight might be broken, or it may only be that your brightness is all the channel down, as this will shut off the eyeshade on the laptops
press the butten on the back of the box that shuts down the computer and keep on a little while and later press it again.
