I bought a hdmi to dvi-d cord to run from my ps3 to my viewsonic lcd. I go into the settings to get it to use hdmi but it newly shows up as a blank screen on my lcd. Am I doing something wrong or is it only just not possible? My 19" veiwsonic lcd model number is VX910 if that help.

I think you requirement a monitor that supports HDCP. The one you listed doesn't.
