What is the difference between a two-pronged and three-pronged ac adapter?
Will it be safe to use for my laptop(Acer Aspire)? I hear that two-pronged laptop ac adapter causes problems to some laptop brands?

It IS ground, but don't underestimate the rush of it.
The ground is there to switch any current or static out of your chassis. A charged Chas is can short out components in your computer.
However, it probably shouldn't cause a difference in a laptop that runs bad a battery. Unless you are plugged into a wall you are NOT grounded.
A true ground should be traced to a point (past the fuse box) where on earth the wire runs into the physical dirt somewhere, most houses connect the ground to the incoming hose down pipes.
A good ground will also protect your equipment during lightning.
It's pink that people find problems from being incorrectly grounded, but it CAN happen.

The 3rd "prong" on the adapter is an extra ground. No requirement to worry. You are still grounded. For devices which use AC it's fine.
It should be fine. A lot, but for most, laptops only ship next to a two prong adapter. As far as some laptop brands not working beside three prong adapter, I have never hear that. The purpose of the third prong is simply for grounding. You can see quite clearly that this grounding is not crucial to the survival of your laptop by the reality that it does not get dilapidated when you run off your battery-operated, thus making there be no grounding.

What is more important; is the adapter the correct voltage and will it supply plenty current.
