'Supersizing' Laptop Memory?

I hold an old Toshiba Satellite P2430-402 near the pre-installed 512 Meg (2 x 256 Meg modules).

The Toshiba website states that the maximum installable memory is 1 Gig.

Part 1. Has anyone tried to put in more than 1 Gig contained by one of these machines? If so, did it work?

Part 2. Since I know that my Toshiba doesn't support any dual-channel memory configurations are there any disadvantages to installing the 1Gig as a single module as defiant 2 x 512 Meg modules?

The idea is that I might try to put within a 1 Gig module along with an existing 256 module and seeing if anything go wrong. If all is all right I'll add another 1 Gig module to trade name 2 Gig.

Thanks in credit!

Answer:
The motherboard will not handle more than a GB. The power of getting 1GB over two 512 mb sticks of ram is price. 2 X 512 sticks are unanimously cheaper. Preformance wise their is no difference.

hope that help
the mother board is not able to button any more so stick with 2 512's
