Programme verbs between computers - No DVD/CD player.?
I need to install the software from my desktop to laptop, but the CD/DVD player on my laptop isn't working.
I own loads of spare cables and a double ethernet & USB ported router, though I'm not network.

With your networking... I will presume that both computers are currently network. (i.e. you can access the internet from both of them at the same time at your house) If so afterwards simply do this.
1) Click the Start Menu
2) Click Control Panel
3) Click Network and Internet Connections
4) Click "Set up or change your Home or Small Office lattice
5) For the notebook click "ignore disconnected hardware" checkbox click next
6) Select the second circle "... through a residential gateway", click subsequent
7) give your computer a signature
8) IMPORTANT: Make sure you remember your network dub (you will need to reenter it when you do this on your desktop)
9) Select turn on File and Printer Sharing
10)Click subsequent and next again. Select a short time ago finish the wizard...
11) repeat steps 1 through 11 on your desktop
IN ORDER TO MAKE THE FILE ACCESSIBLE
1) Right click on the folder that contains the 1.5 gigabyte programme.
2) Click on Sharing and Security...
3) Click the checkbox "Share this folder on the network"

Connect both PCs via ethernet to the router... afterwards they are effectively networked.
If your router is a DSL router after it will have DHCP and will hold allocated IP addresses to the computers. If it isn't, if it's 'just' a dumb ethernet router you may hold to assign IP addresses to the computers.
If you don;t want the router involved, an ethernet crossover cable will work but you will conspicuously need to assign IP address details.
I suggest 192,168.100.1 and 192.168.100.2 next to netmasks of 255.255.255.0
Then make a share of your disc drive on your laptop (you can do it in Windows explorer - right click the drive and pick 'sharing').
Then mount the share of the disc on the laptop (you can do that in Windows explorer too... from Tools -> map net drive).

Other than that, I would check the driver for the compact disc ROM in the laptop. You may have need of to download a driver for it.
If you can't buy anything, then you may not be capable of perform the assignment. You may have loads of spare cable, but they may not be the correct ones. If you can't network them, fix your disc ROM, buy a large plenty flash drive, etc. then we unambiguously cannot help you.
