I enjoy a laptop next to 40gb HDD, 256 hit.. which is better NTFS or Fat32?
Answers:
I don't think it matter for a personal laptop. Others may disagree, but having the HD Fat32 allows you to recuperate data more efficiently if something goes wrong. NTFS is more immobilize, but I have never have issues.
The RAM is probably the biggest problem. although 256 is the minimum requirement for XP, i woudl suggest 1gb.
Also rebuilding the laptop would help verbs up some of the junk that have been accumulate over the past how ever long.
NTFS surrounded by so many ways but for a operating system i would use linux
ntfs is better but to take home it faster install more ram
My laptop is also same (40gb/256ram/ntfs/xp sp2) but runs fine. If I be aware of that my system is geting slow, what I always did is to format (quick is ok), and put tentative WinXP. This is my (ultimate) solution.
See your system's specs below.
NTFS allows support of bigger files and more efficient use of drive space than FAT 32, not to mention access restrictions you cannot get something done on FAT. Running XP with lone 256MB RAM will cause the system to be slow near out factoring the CPU or Hard drive and the file systems. If upgrading is out of the picture consider the following if you modernize or keep current configuration.
-> Defrag the drive monthly
->Scan the drive weekly near updated virus/spyware scanner
->Remove unused programs through disk clean up (Start->Accessories->System Tools)
-> Disable other programs from starting next to MSCONFIG
(Start ->RUN, enter MSCONFIG)
* Keep note of any change you enable or disable near this program, it can make things unstable and harder to fix if you don't document what you did
