Computer Whizes! Whats wrong next to my compact disc rom drive ? it go crazy?

when I put within a cd, it'll start making weird noise then my nouns will freeze when i try to read the cd with medium player or 'my computer'. Dvd's can be read without problems but when I put within Cd's it either freezes up and the drive make weird noise or it just dosen't read it.

How do I fix this problem, whats the accord?

Answer:
I assume this happens next to different CDs, commercial as well as hand-burned. It could be several things:

1. Corrupt driver -- If you're using Windows XP, stir to Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager, find the CD drive, right-click on it and choose "Uninstall". Then reboot your computer and it will read out "new hardware detected" and automatically reinstall it. See if that solves the problem.

2. Get a compact disc drive cleaning disk -- it's a CD next to little brushes on it to clean a dirty lens. It runs for give or take a few 45 minutes, then try a compact disc again.

3. The drive may be going bad and desires to be replaced.

4. Scan in Safe Mode for virus and spyware.
