Do you need it this moment? Go for Core 2 Duo.
If you can hang around, then surrounded by a couple of months the 4 cores will be out. Then you should go for one of those, or you could still return with the same great Core 2 Duo at a significant hoard. While its true that you will always procure better equipment in 6 months to a year... right presently they are getting ready for the 4 cores... so they will really be getting rid of the cores and the core 2's.
And btw I am an AMD fanboy.... but right in a minute Intel is leading contained by performance. No contest.

isn't at hand vista.. use that.. atleast get something explicitly 120 gb. they are the best.. we have academy laptops that are macs.. and only hold 30 gigs.. they suck soo fruitless.. so go beside pc... lol even my zune holds more than my stupid laptop for university!
