They be a way of storing and sharing information ect
between computers similar to a floppy.
Now they are pretty much obsolete.
Don't misuse your money.
Get a large size memory stick.

A zip drive is similar to a floppy drive but a zip disk can hold more. You can plug contained by some zip drives via usb.

The external version need to plug into your computer somehow. Older ones used Parallel cable, the newer ones use USB. You would plug it in a moment ago like you would a Flash Drive, iPod, Digital Camera, etc. It would consequently show up on your computer as a floppy drive or other drive.
