The number at the extension represents the speed at which the RAM runs out. DDR2-667 is capable of running at 667 MHz (or less), while DDR2-533 can at 533 MHz (or less). Some motherboards one and only support a certain speed, so buying faster memory isn't unpromising - it's just dissolute.
If you're ADDING to your current memory, your motherboard MAY require that the memory be matched. If you're REPLACING your current memory, it doesn't matter.

Oh for sure, if you mobo supports it, then take that. Heck, I'm still using an old mobo next to SDRAM 133 mhz ram. Thats the fastest bump i can get on this mobo. So to grasp an extra 133Mhz for 5.00 is a steal. That would mean your memory is 6 times faster than mine, versus 5 times faster.
Check the bus speed of the motherboard (call the store or manufacturer). It may or may not benefit from the complex speed, and therefore may or may not be worth the extra cost. If it's with the sole purpose capable of using 533 Mgz memory, next the 667 Mgz will be no benefit, but will still work.
If you don't want to bother with the hassle of finding out, next just progress with the 667.
I'd buy matching speed because the ram will simply run as fast as your slowest chip. If you plan on not using the untested ram consequently go near the faster pair.
If your motherboard will support the 667, spend the extra $5. It will be worth it.
